Daniel F. Gomez Isaza
Ecological Physiologist | Murdoch University
I am an ecological and conservation physiologist. My research aims to understanding how animals cope with environmental change, and how we can use this knowledge to develop transformational solutions to real-world problems. I ask questions about how species’ ecology is altered by changing or extreme environments, such as the intertidal zone or temperate marine ecosystems. I also apply my expertise to improving the culture of aquatic species (fish, crustaceans, and molluscs), particularly in the context of global environmental change. I take an integrative approach to research; I combine molecular, physiological, behavioural, and ecosystem level responses that together allow me to answer big-picture questions facing our changing planet. My current research explores the responses of ectothermic or “cold-blooded” animals to temperature variation and heat waves.
